Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

Anthony Horowitz class is taught by Mrs. Kinmond-Jones and supported by Miss Bentley. Lisa Thompson class is taught by Miss Goodall and supported by Miss Thompson. Miss Vinnicombe will be supporting across the year group until Christmas.

As the oldest children in the school, pupils in Year 6 can expect to be given various additional responsibilities, such as becoming house captains or play leaders. In addition to this, we will endeavor to provide as many new and exciting opportunities as possible, such as topic engage days, trips and visitors to the school, in order to ensure children are able to make the most of their final year at primary school. Already this year, children have been able to design and make their own customised hoodies as part of an entrepreneurial workshop in partnership with F2D In The Community.

Key Information:

Children should arrive at school at 8.40am and enter the building via the playground. Upon entering the classroom, children will be given a morning task to complete in order to start their day as productively as possible. Mobile phones must be taken to the office on arrival and cannot be kept in the classroom.

Throughout the year, additional booster sessions will be offered to the children in Year 6, to prepare them for their upcoming SATs week which will take place week beginning Monday 9th May.

Regular reading is one of the most beneficial activities a child can complete at home. This will not only increase their reading speed but also widen their vocabulary and improve their comprehension skills. Please encourage your child to read as often as possible. Children can read their school reading books, books from home, or access our new online reading platform, Myon. Times Tables Rockstars can also be accessed from home.

Homework will be set every Friday via Showbie and due in the following Thursday. As a minimum, children in Year 6 can expect to receive one piece of maths homework (linked to the learning from that week), a reading comprehension task and a grammar/writing task. Please note that this may change or be added to depending on teacher judgement about the area of need that week. Tasks set will cover a wide range of skills from Years 3-6 to ensure children meet the end of Key Stage 2 requirements.

Our PE sessions take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit on these days.
Tuesday (indoor PE) – shorts and t-shirt underneath their tracksuit, with trainers.
Wednesday (outdoor PE) – suitable clothing for the weather and trainers (no plimsolls).
Could we please request that your child is either wearing the school PE kit or unbranded sports clothing, and any earrings need to be removed or covered for PE lessons.
