Year 1

Hello and welcome to Year 1! Our teachers are Miss Kinnear, Mrs. Thindal and Miss Burke. We also have Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Starbuck and Mrs. Long who help us with our learning too.

Year 1 is a really important step in your child’s school journey. We are passionate about building on the core values that the children learn in the Early Years and so we incorporate lots of continuous provision into our curriculum.

Key Information:

Children arrive into Year 1 through their class door on the school playground. Teachers then dismiss the children out of these doors at the end of the school day, 3.20pm.

When children arrive into the classroom the teacher will encourage them to be independent and do some simple tasks as they arrive.

  1. Put their water bottle on the side by the sink.
  2. Hang their coat on their labelled peg.
  3. Put their book bag away/packed lunch boxes away.
  4. Go to their teaching assistant to order their lunch for the day.
  5. Complete a morning activity this could be quiet reading on the carpet/letter formation or number formation.

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle (with your child’s name on) into school every day. Your child will be able to refill their water bottle if needed during the day.

All items of clothing need to be clearly labelled.

Reading – Please ensure your child is reading at least 3 times a week. We encourage the children to bring their reading book and reading diary into school every day. We will hear the children read throughout the week and change their book on a Wednesday/Thursday.

Indoor PE- Thursday. Children will need to bring their kit into school to change into. This is a white t-shirt and black shorts or tight leggings or the option of school logo PE Kit available through our suppliers.

Outdoor PE- Tuesday. Children will come to school in their trainers, jogging bottoms, hoody/jumper, and white t-shirt or the option of school logo PE Kit available through our suppliers.
