Physical Education-Health & Wellbeing
At Scientia Academy we believe that physical education has a vital and unique role to play in a child’s development. As part of the PE curriculum, our children experience a wide range of individual, partner and team activities that help to build a positive attitude and help children to understand the role that regular physical activity can play in a balanced lifestyle.
The range of physical activities we provide includes: athletics, games, gymnastics and Year 5 attend weekly swimming lessons. All activities are designed to be enjoyable, vigorous, purposeful and regular, to give children the maximum benefit, all children at Scientia Academy participate in both indoor and outdoor PE sessions.
At lunchtime children are able to join in with a range of activities led by Burton Albion sports coaches. These include: Football, tennis, Dodgeball, Gymnastics and Dance.
Our After School Provision is delivered by Clubs Complete, who offer a range of clubs on a half-termly rotation. Clubs include: gymnastics, tennis and multi-skills.
At regular intervals throughout the year children take part in inter-school competitions across a variety of disciplines. Children have enjoyed competing in football, cross-country running and swimming competitions.
We are very proud to have recently been awarded the Bronze School Games Mark, which was assessed against the following criteria:
Participation - how many young people are being engaged in sporting activity?
Competition - how many different sports are being played and how many competitions are being entered?
Workforce - how many pupils are involved in leadership activities alongside taking part in competitions?
Clubs - how many local links does your school have with clubs or establishments from the area?
At Scientia Academy, we understand the importance of promoting children and young people's emotional health and wellbeing.
Our PSHE scheme is provided by the PSHE Association and we use their support for schools to ensure we are teaching children about mental health safely and effectively.
