Year 1 Exploring Hot & Cold

This term our topic is Hot and Cold. So far, we have learned about Kenya, which is a county in the continent of Africa.

We have located Kenya on a map in Geography, studied the weather and climate in Science and found out about the different animals that live there. We looked at the different landscapes and compared our life in the UK with a child’s life in Kenya. We made binoculars for our safari trip and necklaces inspired by the Maasai Tribes.

We are now beginning to look at the countries that make up the Arctic Circle. As part of our Arctic topic we have been learning about snow! We learned how snow is formed and used our knowledge of shape and pattern to create our own paper snowflakes. We also found out how to draw snowflakes and used oil pastels to draw our own.

We will be identifying the countries on a map and exploring the climate and landscapes. We will also be looking at the animals living in the Arctic and comparing an Arctic Town to a city in the UK.

We have already had some projects in that the children have done at home and have been very impressed with all their hard work! We can’t wait to see the rest as they come in.
