At Scientia Academy we believe that physical education has a vital and unique role to play in a child’s development. As part of the PE curriculum, our children experience a wide range of individual, partner and team activities that help to build a positive attitude and help children to understand the role that regular physical activity can play in a balanced lifestyle. The range of physical activities we provide includes: athletics, games, gymnastics and Year 5 attend weekly swimming lessons. Reception have been working really hard in P.E discovering different ways of movement to help them during the lessons and then linking them in by working with a partner to use a variety of take offs and landings when jumping. Year 1 have been working extremely hard to identify different ways to work as a small team to use different throwing techniques towards a target, along with demonstrating these to other groups. During their P.E Year 2 have found many ways to control their bodies with a range of equipment, along with recalling and linking a combination of skills for example throwing, catching and passing within a team to gain an advantage against an opposition. As well as learning about how they can ‘intercept’ a throw from another team.
Year 4 and 5 have both been enthusiastically learning and advancing their hockey skills including dribbling, passing, tackling and shooting. Even being able to understand different roles within a team and working as part of a successful team.
